Flatbed solar collectors are robust, cost effective, sleek in their low profile design and have proven themselves over a long period of time. They can be used in all situations, even in freezing conditions, as long as glycol is utilized.
Vacuum tube collectors are more efficient in cold climates due to the vacuum inside the tubes. Air in vacuum provides a high level of insulation and therefore these collectors are not prone to freezing. Some vacuum collectors can be rotated for the correct angle to the sun, while remaining flat on the roof. This helps in not having to build unattractive frames on roofs that do not have a north facing slope.
